Cellist Racheli Galay will present the program “Cello Heroes–Stutschewsky” at KAM Isaiah Israel on Mon Feb 7th (co-sponsored by the Chicago Cello Society). I’ve heard Racheli give versions of this program last March (at the University of Chicago) & last April (for ARZA), & both times I was entranced, so I will definitely be @ KAMII on 2/7 to listen again to this beautiful music.
In addition to perfecting her performance, Racheli has also done scholarly work on Stutschewsky (one of the fathers of Israeli Classical Music). Click HERE to read chapters from her dissertation on her website.
Many of the pieces Racheli played at the University of Chicago concert (where she was accompanied by pianist Ilya Levinson) are on the CD In Hassidic Mood (distributed by Beth Hatefutsoth Records in Tel Aviv, and available from Amazon and other sources). At KAMII, she will be accompanied by pianist Yu-Sui Hung.
